AUCKLAND: New Zealand police have recovered a stolen Fabergé egg pendant worth NZ$33,000 (US$19,000) after a 32-year-old man allegedly swallowed it.
Officers monitored the man’s bowel movements for six days until the pendant was safely expelled, requiring no medical intervention.

The Alleged Theft
The man allegedly ingested the limited-edition pendant from Partridge Jewelers in Auckland on 28 November, inspired by the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy.

Police arrested him at the store shortly after the incident.
The pendant, part of a collection of only 50 pieces, is made of gold, decorated with green enamel, 183 diamonds, two sapphires, and features an 18-carat gold octopus inside.

Police Surveillance and Court Proceedings
Inspector Grae Anderson of Auckland City District Police said officers were stationed around the clock to monitor the suspect.
“At the time of his arrest, he underwent a medical assessment, and an officer is assigned to constantly monitor the man,” he said.
The suspect appeared in Auckland District Court on 29 November but did not enter a plea to the theft charge.
He remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on 8 December.
Other Alleged Offenses
Local media reports indicate the suspect faces additional charges, including allegedly stealing an iPad from the same shop on 12 November and cat litter and flea control products valued at NZ$100 (US$57.69) from a private residence the next day.
