SINGAPORE: The Elections Department (ELD) announced on 10 November 2025 that ballot papers and other election documents from the general election held on 3 May 2025 will be destroyed on 22 November.

The destruction will take place at the Tuas South Incineration Plant.

According to the ELD’s statement, the process follows the Parliamentary Elections Act 1954.

Under the Act, all ballot papers and related election documents must be securely sealed and retained for six months after an election.

After this period, they are destroyed unless the President directs otherwise.

The department explained that this procedure safeguards the secrecy of votes and ensures that election materials are not misused.

The sealed boxes containing ballot papers have been kept in safe custody at the Supreme Court since polling day.

On 22 November, these boxes will be transported from the Supreme Court to the Tuas South Incineration Plant under secure arrangements.

The ELD stated that it will invite candidates or their authorised representatives to observe the incineration process, in line with long-standing practice to maintain transparency and public confidence in electoral procedures.

More than 2.4 million registered voters cast their votes at 1,240 polling stations across Singapore during the general election on 3 May 2025.

The People’s Action Party (PAP) secured 65.57 per cent of the popular vote, winning 87 out of 97 parliamentary seats.

The Workers’ Party (WP) retained its 10 seats in Parliament, continuing to serve as the main opposition party.
