SINGAPORE: A 42-year-old delivery driver in Yishun has become the target of aggressive loan-shark harassment, after syndicate members displayed a large cardboard poster at the foot of Block 476B, Yishun Street 44, exposing his photograph, name, address and phone number.

The poster depicted a “God of Wealth” image and accused the man of deceiving others, while inviting people to visit his unit for a supposed “retreat”.

The display was removed shortly after residents alerted authorities, but several neighbours confirmed seeing it.

Victim: Loan fully repaid, but syndicate demands more

The man, Mr Huang, told local media Lianhe Zaobao that he had borrowed S$8,000 earlier this year and had already repaid the full amount.

Despite this, the loan sharks later claimed he owed them more than S$10,000 and began harassing him when he refused to make further payments.

“This is a bottomless pit that I can never fill,” he said, adding that he immediately filed a police report after being notified by his father.

Loan sharks also sent him threatening messages the same night, warning they would “use every method possible” to make his life unbearable.

Wreaths, cement bags and repeated intimidation

This is not the first time the syndicate has targeted him.

Mr Huang said loan sharks previously delivered funeral wreaths to his home as a scare tactic and recently left several bags of cement at his doorstep, blocking his entry and causing distress to his family.

“My children and my wife are frightened. I feel guilty for dragging them into this,” he said, fighting back tears.

The harassment has caused immense stress for the father of three, who said he turned to borrowing only after a failed logistics business left him financially devastated.

Police investigating; poster appears repurposed

Police confirmed receiving a report and said investigations are ongoing.

Observers noted that the poster appeared to be originally from a temple event, later altered by loan sharks to include the victim’s photo and address.

To protect his family, Mr Huang has installed a security camera outside his home, hoping it will deter further harassment or at least capture evidence.
