SINGAPORE — A short disruption on Singapore’s Circle Line affected train services between Marina Bay and Promenade stations on the morning of 1 September, before operations returned to normal by 9.17am, according to rail operator SMRT.
The fault, which occurred during the morning peak period, prompted SMRT to issue a series of alternative travel advisories and activate free bridging bus services between the two affected stations.
At 8.40am and 8.50am, SMRT posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), advising passengers heading to Marina Bay to transfer to the North-South Line via Dhoby Ghaut or Bishan, or to use the Thomson-East Coast Line from Caldecott.
Commuters travelling towards Bayfront were directed to transfer via Promenade or MacPherson stations to access the Downtown Line.
By 8.52am, SMRT announced that free regular bus services were running between Promenade and Marina Bay. These services were discontinued once train operations fully resumed.
In a Facebook post around 9am, SMRT apologised for the inconvenience and advised affected passengers to approach station staff for assistance.
SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai also issued a public apology at 9.18am, saying:
“We apologise for the disruption during the morning peak commute and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.”
This marks the first reported Circle Line disruption since 20 May 2025.
On 29 July, commuters had reported overcrowding at several Circle Line stations during peak hours, though no official service fault was confirmed at that time.
