- Google and YouTube, in partnership with the Jakarta Government and experts, launched AKSI Digital to support family digital wellbeing.
- The initiative will train 2,500 counselling teachers and publish a Digital Wellbeing Guidebook for Indonesian families.
- The programme marks a global first in provincial-level collaboration with YouTube, aiming to scale nationwide.
In a significant step toward enhancing digital wellbeing in Indonesia, Google and YouTube have launched AKSI Digital (Anak & Keluarga Sigap Digital), a collaborative programme designed to empower Indonesian families and educators in navigating the digital world.
Launched on 29 January 2026 in Jakarta, the initiative brings together a broad coalition of partners including the Jakarta City Government, the University of Indonesia, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), and the Indonesian Psychiatric Association (PDSKJI).
AKSI Digital will introduce a Digital Wellbeing Guidebook and train 2,500 counselling teachers, particularly in Jakarta, to support students' mental health in a digital learning environment. These educators, often the first point of contact for students, are viewed as key figures in building a resilient digital generation.
Leslie Miller, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy at YouTube, said, “We aim to protect youth in the digital world, not from it.” She highlighted that YouTube has become a dynamic educational resource in Indonesia, with 89% of parents agreeing it benefits their child’s learning and 96% of teachers incorporating it into their assignments.
The platform has introduced tools such as the Shorts timer and custom Bedtime reminders, which allow families to set healthy boundaries. These features align with YouTube’s broader goals of promoting high-quality, age-appropriate content to younger viewers.
In Indonesian classrooms, the integration of YouTube is growing rapidly. 82% of surveyed teachers believe it helps students grasp complex concepts. The AKSI Digital programme builds on this shift by embedding a support structure that spans education, mental health, and digital literacy.
Jakarta’s Governor, Pramono Anung, praised the partnership. “We are truly grateful for this cooperation, which covers the fields of health, education, and digital literacy,” he stated. The Jakarta Provincial Government has worked closely with YouTube on various programmes, including:
-
Mental health and character education for adolescents aged 13–16
-
Training for guidance and counselling (BK) teachers
-
Training in digital content creation for both educators and healthcare professionals
-
The YouTube Health programme in collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Health Office
According to Governor Pramono, this is the first provincial-level collaboration of its kind globally. He added, “This cooperation is a follow-up to previous initiatives and is now directly benefiting schools such as SMKN 27 Jakarta, where content creation training is being actively practised.”
He emphasised the strategic nature of the collaboration, expressing hope that it would lead to sustainable impacts for Jakarta’s population. “This is about building a generation that is mentally healthy, digitally capable, and creative,” he said.
AKSI Digital represents more than a single intervention—it is a long-term commitment to building a robust and inclusive digital ecosystem in Indonesia. By bridging global technology with local expertise, the initiative ensures that Indonesian youth remain resilient and literate as digital environments evolve.
After this initial pilot phase in Jakarta, the partners plan to assess the outcomes with the aim of expanding the programme to other regions. The ultimate goal is to support families and educators across Indonesia in creating a safe, informed, and productive digital future.
